Uncle Joe’s Family Restaurant is a straightforward, no-frills spot located on Main Street in Markham, known primarily for serving up classic Canadian and Western-style fare. With a setup that leans towards the traditional diner or family restaurant aesthetic—clean and tidy but a bit dated—it feels like a familiar gathering place rather than a trendy destination.

This is the kind of restaurant where locals come for hearty breakfasts or a solid steak dinner without fuss. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, especially appreciated during quieter afternoon hours when you might be the only one dining in and can enjoy some soft jazz playing in the background. The staff tends to be friendly and attentive, contributing to a relaxed visit whether you’re dropping in alone or with family.

The menu highlights lean heavily on grilled and roasted meats—particularly steaks and lamb—which get consistently positive nods for being well-charred on the outside while staying juicy. If you’re there with a group, the roasted leg of lamb or rack of lamb offers a shareable option that doesn’t skimp on flavor. Breakfast options like the Two Eggs Special with Bacon paired with coffee also fit the bill for straightforward, satisfying morning fare. Sandwich choices such as the Western Sandwich, loaded with ham, eggs, celery, and mushrooms, stand out as simple but notably better than average versions found elsewhere.

Uncle Joe’s works well as a comfortable, casual family spot or a low-key place for a solo meal. It’s a practical choice for gathering around classic dishes without a lot of flair, and the kind of place where you can easily count on consistent portions. Parking behind the restaurant makes it convenient to visit, and the service tends to help offset the modest decor.During holiday seasons, the restaurant can feel especially inviting, with hearty specials like turkey combos bringing a festive warmth to the table.

I had such an amazing experience eating here around the holiday season with my family, atmosphere was warm and cozy along with the service to match. The food? Absolutely incredible definitely will be back. I would recommend either any of the steaks or if going with a big group getting the lamb leg!

I have only has the toasted western and fries. Without ant doubt at all this western is way better than any other I have ever had and the price was reasonable. The fries were good. Bright and fresh rather than darker brown indicating old grease. I have only been there twice both times about 2 pm to 3 pm and I was the only one there. I like the Jazz FM music they always play as that is what I almost listen to. For me the place being empty with just music was great but I am concerned they may not be getting enough business. That is why I decided to write this review. For me they are probably the best restaurant anywhere.

Cannot believe this is the first time I am trying this place when it has opened for like 20years. The decor is a typical cafe/diner style, nothing fancy but clean and tidy. The service is friendly and attentive as well.. I would recommend to get their grill dish, the steak, lamb dish that came from the grill are perfectly cooked with a nice char but not burnt and yet juicy! I really enjoyed the steak dinner there tonight. I definitely would go again! Forgot to mention, they have onion soup too.. it won’t be the best you have tried but for $6, it’s worth it in my opinion.

A small family restaurant. Decor needs an update. Food was average and prices fair. Service was attentive and personable. Parking can be found behind the restaurant.

I recently ordered take out for a whole turkey combo with cooked vegetables, stuffing, rice and bread for my Xmas party. The turkey was moist, tender and delicious. the stuffing was amazing with real cranberries. I had a main dish with all the sides on the dining table and all my guests loved my Turkey Combo. Thank you Uncle Joe!

I tried the burger, pasta, and the steak. My verdict is to come here only for the burger. I like how they toasted the bun and the meat is tasty. Fries is also nice and potatoey. I would not recommend getting pasta, because it was very bland. The steak was very dry and not worth it. Price is reasonable.
